How To Tell If Your Fuel Pump Is Aftermarket???

Hey guys, this may sound stupid but i bought my car with, what i was told, was a walboro 255.

Im wondering if there is any way i can cehck to see if it is a walboro 255, walboro 190, or other size? Is there a way to see what size fuel pump you have without removing it?

I KNOW its aftermarket, but im about to start tuning my safc2 and it says that if you have a 255 or larger fuel pump w/ out an AFPR, to not even attempt tuning... :( :(

You have to pull the pump and check the part number to be 100% sure.
You might be able to guess between a 190 and 255 l/h pump by cranking the fuel puressure up and measuring the flow rate but that might be harder than pulling the pump.

Take out the pump assembly and read the side of the pump.

Walbro 190 = WALBRO GSS250
Walbro 255 = WALBRO GSS317
Walbro 255 HP = WALBRO GSS342

If you have a 255, tuning will become difficult as you have no control over your skyrocketing fuel pressure. Check the pump and let us know what it says on it first.

the walbro pumps say walbro on them, and the stock pumps say denso on them.....its as simple as that.

Thanks matt thats what i needed and thats the exact reason im checking as well:thumb:

Turns out it IS a 255, so after discovering its a 255 i went ahead and purchased the FTS afpr. I was hoping it was just a 190 so i could get a good tune going but i will have to wait to put the afpr on now.

For future reference in case any 1g guys need to know a part number for the Walbro fuel pumps

For the 1g the difference in part numbers between fwd and awd, is the location of the fuel inlet.
Walbro 190 fwd= GSS250
Walbro 190 awd=GSS278
Walbro 255 fwd=GSS317
Walbro 255 awd=GSS315
Walbro 255hp fwd=GSS342
Walbro 255hp awd=GSS341
 
You don't need to get an AFRP. If you have your 255LHP pump, S-AFC, and larger injectors (not exceeding 660cc) you will be able to tuning your engine fine. Also, the stock fuel lines are good up until 500HP.

I know of DSM running high 11's on stock FPR, 660cc, and S-AFC.

Once again it's necessary to point out that WOT performance isn't where fuel pressure overrun shows up since the engine has consumed the surplus fuel that was causing the regulator to overrun.

It's anytime you back off the throttle or anyting other than WOT where the fuel pressure spiking around happens and since it's fuel consumption and not directly RPM based you can't tune it out with an SAFC. If you remove the extra fuel the car will be lean at those rpms when the regulator is functioning correctly.

The only way to fix this problem is to get a fuel pressure regulator that does NOT overrun with the fuel pump your using.
