Burnaby,
hey guys im a bit new to this whole forums thing so forgive me if its a bit of an odd question. anyways

I've read up a bit on water injection and it seems that it works pretty good i just wanted to know if anyone has had any problems with internal rust ? or maybe any water getting to the oil? i realize that any moving parts wont get rust but i figure anything before the intake valve or even possible parts of the exaust side of the turbo might be effected.

also i was thinking that the piston rings might blow by a little resulting in some water in the oil ( moreso in an old engine)

I was also wondering if anyone has tried to use a nitrous system with a water injection system .... i'd think that you would get little ice crystals floating around.

anywhoo someone with some info would be greatly apreciated

thanks again:thumb:

If you have concerns about using water, you can subistitute methanol instead. Most of the water changes from a vapor to a gas in the intake charge or in the combustion chamber so it shouldn't cause any problems with rust.

Using water injection and nitrous simultaneously would be pointless. The nitrous is going to cool the intake charge more than the water injetion ever could.

Welcome aboard!

I've spent hours over in the how to section of this site. There's a couple of pretty cool write ups on water/alcohol injection that might answer most of your questions.

As gvr4592 said, the latent heat of evaporation is primarily why people use water injection. As the water changes state from a liquid to a gas, it absorbs heat from the intake airstream, providing resistance to detonation.

I haven't used it myself, but I've seen a bunch of well done installs that had zero problems. If everything is sized correctly, and safety/pressure switches are used, it's pretty reliable. Just do your homework first, and it could work well for you.

I've also seen a couple of poorly installed setups that were a disaster waiting to happen.

When used correctly the advantages have been proven.

Enjoy the site, and don't hesitate to ask questions. It's the only way to learn! :thumb:

I've got a friend using it very well on his car. He's got a small 1g, 550's and on race gas and water/meth injection runs 12.0's.

There's a little rust coating inside his piping that we can see, but no major amount. If you're really concerned about it. Powdercoating the interior of the piping could take care of any issues i'm sure. He's still on the stock piping and sidemount (which makes the 12.0 even crazier) so a simple switch to stainless steel or aluminum intercooler piping could solve the rusting issue very easily.

thanks guys for all your input .... im seriously considering water/methanol injection in the future. as for the nitrous and water injection together part of my question ....... i simply added that because most ppl dont drive around with thier nitrous going all the time ...... so i was just thinking that one might be using water injection in normal conditions and that instead of wiring up a cutoff when thier nitrous came on ........ maybe they could have both .......... or would it just make ice crystals?

I'd also like to add that i just today ordered my evo 3 16g from buschur racing along with a fuel pump and a boost controller. im just a little bit excited so i waqnted to get that out........... in 2 weeks i should be ordering a 3" exaust from thier as well ...... o2 housing and 2g manifold are on the list but i think they gonna have to wait a while.

p.s has anyone heard of someone trying ethanol in thier mix? and that new e-85 stuff is that mostly ethanol anyways ?
