Same symptoms as an intercooler hose popping off, yet they're secure.

Take off from a stop, in moderate boost, and I hear a "pop," accompanied with immediate loss of power.

I immediately mentally diagnosed it as an intercooler hose popping off, although when I pulled over they were fine.

Restarted: The idle is lumpy, idles for a bit then dies, no power, but I CAN get it to rev.

Any takers? Thanks :dsm:

I had a customers car do something very similiar to what you're describing. It turns out the intercooler inlet came apart..WTF ... It was a Michigan car and was heavily corroded.

I see that your're from arizona, so corrosion isn't so likely...:D

However, there's still many other ways for the pressurised ducting from the turbo to the intercooler to the intake to develop leaks...

I'd give the whole system a thorough visual inspection...paying real close attention to any couplers/flexible/rubber hoses that you may have on your particular car. I've seen a couple of aftermarket hoses just split wide open...but still be securely attached at both ends.

And then, if you don't find anything visually, perform a boost leak test.

Good luck, and please let us know what you find.

Well, this was right on the money. The T-bolt clamp had busted on one side, but the coulper had not detached itself obviously like usual.

Anyways, thanks and nice work.. :D
