Well the balancer belt snapped and im doing a rebuilt as we speak. Having everything machined at the shop. The only problem I am running into is the intake camshaft.

That was the side where all the pistons said hello to the vavles (bent vavles). The exhaust side was all ok. But while removing the camshafts, I knoticed that the grinds were pretty tore up from hitting all the rockers. I took it to the machine shop and he said to get it replaced.

One shop said to just get a used one...and if so, do i replace just the intake camshaft or both? and should I get 1g cams or 2g cams?

In a sense, I was looking into getting new ones since everything is getting rebuild might as well make everything fresh. I was looking into Fp2's but with my stock turbo...will this be over kill?
 
To get optimum performance out of aftermarket cams, you really need to have a method of tuning it. Also, if your engine has some mileage valve springs and retainers wouldn't be a bad idea.

You could replace just the intake cam, but if you are talking going with a set of stock cams go for some 1G 5spd cams. They seem to be sought after since they have more desirable specs of the OEM 1G/2G cams.
 
yeah i figured you would need some kind of tuning. I think i'll just go with some 1g cams and upgrade later. Spend that extra money on somthing else...thanks!
 
Get yourself DSMLink, or some other tuning method. It's always good to having tuning capabilities.
