Doing valve stem seals on 1.8 SOHC NA.

The book says to remove the distributor and the cam.

Is the cam in the way of the valve stem seal operation in any way? I don't see it from pics and diagrams.

I was wondering if I can leave the cam in its seats with the sprocket attached and hold the other end of the cam by taking the last cap off of the rocker assembly and reinstalling it on the end of the cam opposite the sprocket.

I guess the other option is to tie up and suspend the cam sprocket and belt and just yank the cam out. I was hoping to avoid having to redo the ignition timing.

Thanks

Ian

The answer is yes.

It was very easy. I just took the far end cap off of the rocker rails and reinstalled it to ensure that the cam was supported and would not lift out of it's seats when the crank turned from the air pressure. I just laid a clean rag over it to protect it from knicks and debris.

1 1/2 hours start to finish. I'm very happy.
