Hey all,

I have a Autometer lunar series boost gauge...Obviously from the pic, it
shows that gauge is off by -3 at a stand still with the car off. Is there any way to fix this or should I just get a new one...Im pissed because its only 2 years old and cost me a pretty penny. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Kevin

Autometer is very good with replacing defective products so write them an email and see what they say.

Mine sits at -10  second gauge from them that has gone bad. Ill be writing them soon or calling.

EDIT thanks for reminding me. I just wrote them this.

Hello, my name is Matt and I currenty own and run 3 or your Ultra-Lite series Gauges. They are Boost/Vac (30-30), Oil Pressure ( Mechanical ) and Air/Fuel. My Problem is that my Boost/Vac gauge is seated at -10 when the car is turned off which leads me to believe that I am getting inaccurate readings when the car is running. This gauge is very important to my motor/Turbo's well being. This is the 2nd Boost/Vac gauge I have had go bad. The first was an Ultra-Lite Boost/Vac ( 30-20 ). I didnt bother writing to your company when that one failed, because I knew I was going to be upgrading to the ( 30-30 ) gauge I have now. Since I plan on keeping and running Auto-Meter products I was wondering if there were anyway I could have this gauge repaired or replaced. I am willing to send my gauge to your company as I have heard you have great customer service, and are a very personal coorperation. Please let me know what can be done to take care of my problem. Thank you for you time. - Matt Druskin

Update.. Auto-Meter wrote me back this morning and asked that I send the gauge in with return address and some other information. They are replacing it for free ! Now thats great customer service. Im veryplease wiht the wuick responce and how they took care of the situation. Big thumbs up to autometer. :thumb:

Wait, the boost gauges are supposed to sit at exactly 0 when the cars off?? I think mines just above 0, at like 1 or 2, Im not sure, I'd go look but its a half hour away on a lift, does that mean mine is also bad? When it idles, its at like -15 or so, which is where its supposed to be.

Yes, it should sit at 0 when the car is off.
They should just include a knob on the back of the gauges that allows you to move the needle to the correct position if it ever goes bad.

I have takes apart my oil pressure gauge before and its a pretty intriqute system they developed in there. 20 psi is all of 1.5 mm (movement) inside the gauge I believe if its seated off, its staying off.

So you're saying giving us a knob for calibration would be very hard?

Like I said before, from what I saw inside that gauge its on or its off. To many little components and precise locations for parts that an adjusting knob, I don't think would "cut" it.

Its not like they are making them bad on purpose, they replaced mine for free and I havn't heard anything bad about them from anyone else either.

Wait, so for a boost gauge, not an oil pressure gauge, there IS NO knob, or there is???

No no, he was saying they SHOULD have one which I agree with, but I also dont think its going to happen.

Makes sense...they probably would have a knob if it were possible anyways as it would save them alot of time and money.

I have had nothing but autometer gauges. My egt went bad once and they replaced it with no hassle.

hi i'm sorry to post this here but i need a little info and fast and no one has responded to the others yet... i'm in the process of buying an air fuel gauge and in little letters it says for narrow band only does this apply to my 91 talon tsi pretty much all stock.. any replies would be greatly appreciated

If you like the blinky lights that do nothing go for it. Otherwise totaly useless.

Yeah don't waist your money on one of those. Search for air fuel gauge on here and you will see why. Narrow band simply refers to the stock o2 sensors which reads voltage. Wideband is an aftermarket o2 sensor with its own display and reads actual air fuel. So save your money. If you want to buy another gauge besides the boost, egt (exhaust gas temp) is what you should go with; around $130. A wideband is around $400 so that's a whole other game and you don't need that til you run aftermarket fuel and stuff and really want performance.

Dido on the narrow band gauge. All they do it bounce around between full rich and full lean and are totally useless. A Wideband is a great tool that everyone who is serious about performance should have in their car. Autometer is now making wideband gauges. I personally is a fan of the AEM UEGO. It's wire to mimic the stock sensor means you don't have to keep the stock sensor and weld in another bung.
As for Autometer's return policy. They say that they will replace a gauge for up to 2 years. You can tell this because there should be a little sticker on the side that has the manufacture date and other information. However I called then about a boost gauge that was on my car when I bought it. The gauge didn't have a sticker but I told them that I ran 5 autometer gauges and a bunch of other B.S. about how I loved them. They told me to ship it to them. They sent me a new one free of charge and even paid for the shipping. The number to call is 1-815-899-0801. Just tell them your situation and they will hook you up.
