When I start my '93 TSi, it generally takes about five minutes of idling before I can drive it. It idles a little high, which is normal, but when I give it gas the idle jumps from 1,000 or so up to 2,500 and then back down over and over. If I leave the pedal where it is, after a short time it will rev out and then go back to what it was doing before. If i lift my foot off it idles just fine. It takes about 2/3rds of the temp gauge before I can drive off. I replaced my MAS just yesterday so it's not that, which is what I thought it was initially. What should I check next??

Likely either your ISC is dirty, you have a vaccume/boost leak, your EGR is malfunctioning, or your FAIV is bad.

Check the following FAQs:
Boost Leak Test
Clean Throttle Body/ISC Valve
Set BAse Idle Speed (BISS)

I agree with all of those suggestions ^^^
Also, just a thought...You might want to check your ECT (Coolant Temp Sensor). When mine was bad, my car did similar things (it was very hard to keep a steady idle until the engine was warmed up, among other things). Replacing the ISC fixed this problem a little, but it didn't completely go away until I swapped my ECT. So just a thought.....

I would definitely check the things listed above first, though, before assuming it's your ECT. :thumb:

OK, im going down to buy a new ECT sensor right now, and my car is now in the process of idling to normal operating temp before i can drive off. I was just out in my garage in my car and i put the throttle to the floor. It did the same stuff (idle jumps from 1.5 to 2.5 and back over and over until i take my foot off) but this time i kept my foot down for like 5 seconds and it threw a check engine light. I lifted my foot off and it went away promptly. I also noticed that it was spitting out a bunch of black crap all over the driveway and there is also what looks like gas mixed in. Any thoughts??

Also, there is a light that looks like a radiator that is lit up on my dash. It is right next to my CEL. What is that about?

"Black crap" is probably oil.
It could also be any number of other fluids that have just gotten dirty. I've seen black power steering fluid, for example (old/dirty/etc). The fluid that looks like gas could actually be gas, or it could be clean power steering fluid (which is kind of amber colored, looks similar to gas but more of an oily consistency).

Check your spark plugs to see if they have oil on them. If oil is mixing with gas/vice versa, could be worn rings.

Do a compression/leakdown test to be absolutely sure.

That's your radiator light. It means you're low on coolant.

Yea that's what I thought initially (in regards to the rad. light) but I topped it off and it's still on...

Sometimes that light will come on when your Alternator is on its way out.

As for the check engine light under WOT....I'll have to think about that for a minute....
Do you have a logger? The codes should be stored, if they are indeed codes and not something malfunctioning in the ECU, or a problem with the wiring (short, perhaps) at the actual CEL bulb. I've seen that happen in one or two isolated cases, but usually it'll cause the CEL to illuminate and not go off, with no codes present at all.
