okay guys, so today i was driving around and at a stop light i glanced at my rearview mirror and i saw smoke being blown away from my tail pipe. Well i went back home, got out n smelt it and it smells like oil/gas. its blue...i think...because it doesnt smell like coolant. its blue/white its hard to say. THe smoke is only visible at idle and on throttle, it goes away upon deceleration or when the rpms drop.

well i know i am burning oil at this point, but my question is other than the turbo, valve seals and possibly piston rings where else can i burn oil? But i wasn't boosting and i was only running 10psi...but i guess the turbo may start leaking oil as long as the seals are bad, and you don;t have to be on it...

how can i check the turbo? can i remove the LICP and see if there is oil coated on it? shaft play? i can check if its the piston rings by running a compression test on it right?

i am hoping its the turbo cause then i can plug and play another 14b because this is my daily and i am in a hurry. oh well, any response or feedback from you guys would be awesome.

thanks

Yes, pull off the LICP and check for pools of oil sitting in it and the intercooler. Make sure you're not directly underneath of it or you will take a nice nasty shower.
To check your rings run a leakdown test.

You should also check the valve cover spark plug gromets. I had the same smoking problem and it turned out the oil was leaking into the spark plug threads into the cylinders causing smoking. All I had to do was pull of the spark plug wires and it was clearly visible with oil all around the spark plugs. -Garrett.

not to jack this thread but I'm wondering like when i let my car sit and if it sits for little more then a min i give it some gas a blue smoke puffes out then it's gone no more smoke untill i sit agian is that carbon build up on the exhaust houseing blowing off? or is my turbo burning? it only does this after it sits for 2 mins or more:confused:

I had that same problem. If it sat like you said for more than 2 minutes, you could hit the gas and blow a huge plume of smoke. I was also wondering what would cause this, cause like I said, it wasnt just a puff, it filled driveway i was in.

okay well an update, i replaced the PCV, and i checked compression. I am pleased with the compression numbers. 155 even on all four cylinders.

How can i check if they are the valve seals? another update is when i sit the car for a little while, and i drive for about 2 mins, it starts smoking crazy. When i turn it back off and on the smoke goes away for the whole duration of the drive. I think there is some oil leaking into the cylinders when the car sits and it burns away when the temps get high enough. Leading me still to think turbo or valve seals.
