Ok this is weird it sounds like there is an animal in my radiator or something. Its like a very loud rpm based moan whine noise coming from the passenger side of the engine bay. Happens only when the car is cold, sitting for at least a few hours. Noise started last sunday, I drove to work for maybe 5 minutes, then I was parked for about 7 hours. Someone with a large white suv seems to have hit the front of the car while I was parked, scratched and dented the hood, pretty good sized dent, about 4"x4" right in the center by the latch. Anyway, I first heard the noise after I started it up and when I went to look I saw the dent. It goes away past 3k rpm, it may still be there but my exhaust overpowers it.

It makes more noise at idle, with someone turning the steering wheel. Its not the power steering pump because one, my steering is not affected, and 2 its only a few months old. Someone help me out? Ideas or anything. if anyone in the bergen country nj area wants to take a look to help me out, gimme a priv and ill give you my number.

Mine did the same thing and turned out one of the mounting bolts to the PS Bracket had backed out and the whole unit was loose. Check that and the PS belt for correct tension :dsm:

Check your harmonic balancer for signs of separation.

How do I do that? I got a chiltons manual, but cant find harmonic balancer. I am 420a if it makes a difference.

I added some power steering fluid since it was running really low. I think that took care of it. Ill check again tommorrow, car hasn't been cold since like 4 pm this afternoon, damn pizza delivery.

PS fluid was running "really low"? Check for leaks in the PS lines.

My initial guess was that your PS pump is loose. Try taking a socket (12mm I think...) to the tightening assembly on the bracket; only a few turns is needed - don't break the belt.

Like DSM90AWD said, your PS pump bracket could be damaged too. Check it thoroughly.

Also try clocking your steering wheel all the way to one side when the car is turned on. See if it squeaks then. This will confirm it's the PS system that's giving you the irritating noises.

I don't think the harmonic balancer (crankshaft pulley) is the problem. I've never heard of the balancer separating on 420As like it does on 4G63s.
