well all this all started last night i go to take my friends girlfriend to go get some pizza when i started it up it seems fine tried to pull out and it stalled i was thinking maybe i let the clutch out to fast on the hill when i made it to the flat road it stalled again. got it going and when i was hitting the gas the car felt like it had no power. especially under boost. but other than that it still drove then i went out this morning to start it and it would start up then in 3 secs it would just die. then the check engine light came on. after i give it alot of gas the car stays running and won't shutdown but still feels like its hesitating. i pulled out the plugs and they were dry the car also seemed to miss a bit even while i was holding rpms up steadily i have no data logger and no way to read the code could. i cleared the computer and it won't stall now but still hesitating when you hit the gas. someone please help me out it would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance

well i went to advance auto parts and to my surprise there was one of our kind working there he showed me a broken vacuum line i had on one of the lines running off the tb i belive it was the A line but needless to say it helped it idle better but he also showed me that my down pipe broke free from the cat which he said it is possible for the computer to not get a reading from the downstream o2 sensor and it caused my car to go into limp mode i guess he said it retarded my timing so i think i will go out and fix that here shortly
and i will post back my results
wish me luck all

what exactly am i looking for on the plug wires

turns out the exhaust didn't help it is still stalling and still no power and the plugs look ok i am gonna take the cover off later in the dark so i can see if the wires are arcing i am also getting it scanned today wish me luck all

well i take the car to the shop to get it tested. the guy tells me to bring it in when i go to start the car it makes a loud rapping sound from under the hood i am scared that my engine is done someone please tell me what to do. i was thinking of trying to replace the plugs and wires but someone please help me here its sitting outside the shop as we speak i didn't wanna try to drive it home

any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated

p.s we checked the timing everything looks to be ok so could it be something else

Do a compression test first. Have you checked your harmonic balancer for separation, they make some knocking noises sometimes if they are coming apart. You might have jumped a tooth or two from a balancer shaft belt breaking and getting stuck in the main timing belt, or just a bad tensioner leaving your timing belt too loose. Like I said though, check compression first, I'm assuming you have checked spark, and injector output already right???:dsm:

yes i checked the spark and i checked the injection i also just put in new plugs and wires today and it is still sitting down at my tech school making the loudest rapping i have ever heard it is a manual so no harmonic balancer here and i just bought a new tensioner when i did the belts about 400 miles ago
i am gonna check the timing again tomorrow along with a compression check if possible
wish me luck and thank you so much for posting noone else seems to know or don't care to open the thread so thank you again

Dude, you still have a harmonic balancer even if it is a stick shift. It is the part behind the pulley that sits on the end of the crankshaft and the pulley has four bolts that bolt it to the dampener.:dsm:

i believe BISHILVR is correct, sounds like a harmonic balancer or your crank pulley. this happened to me, my crank pully warped and it did the same thing. you still have your PS and alternator though.. so the belt might jsut be too tight, and hasnt jumped off altogether yet

well we took it apart today and my worst fears were confirmed my timing jumped and now i am just hoping and praying that it didn't bend my valves but if it did i got a 1st gen head ready to be put on it if it will work does anyone know if a 1st gen head can work on my 2nd gen

Yes, a 1g head will work on a 2g but you will have to use a 1g intake manifold with it. Its actually a upgrade so look at it as a good thing in a way. There is a few other little things here and there that you will figure out for yourself, no biggie.:dsm:

well we got the timing back dead on the belts nice and tight and she still purrs like a kitten obviously no bent valves i guess i got lucky but i think i will be doing a compression check very shortly i ran out of time to do it today but its not hesitating anymore and its idleing real nice and i got the power back so i would like to thank all of you guys and girls for helping me out yet again i don't know what i would do without all of you

thanks again
