i have been having a wierd idling problem at first start up. it will idle really rough and about mid intake near the fire wall, there is a popping sound and what sounds like something is catching on fire. the car will die out until it finally warms up. it then stays running but still makes those two sounds and idles rough. anybody know how to fix it?

Sounds like a possible vacuum leak. Spray the area with a little water while the car is running. If you see it bubbling, there's your problem. You'll need to seal up whatever is leaking. That may mean changing the intake manifold gasket.

that could be whats making the crackling sound? where exactly should i spray water at to look for the leak?

Add a little dish soap to the water and spray everywhere that a vacuum line or pressure line is, you can spray basically everywhere. The soap will help you see the leak better because it will bubble up some.
