Hey guys..

My 96 gs, on the way back from school, started to tick and smoke pretty bad out of the exhuast today. I did a search on what the ticking could be; maybe a few lifters? or lucas oil additive which would make it "go away"? what would cause ticking? its not too loud, but its there. also, the smoke from the exhaust is a whitish color...not blue from oil, but white. I could use all of the help I can get. :toobad:

Thanks guys,
Brian

Usually white smoke means it is running to rich. But it is getting cold out, you will see more exhaust when it is cold out. The ticking is probaly the lifters if it just started, but the injectors in dsm's are pretty loud also. Lucas probaly wont fix the problem, but it's only like 8 dollars so give it a try. Also, I am not sure where you live and how cold it is, but if it is pretty cold it's a good idea to let the car run for a little bit and get warm before you drive it.

He lives in Florida so I imagine its not too cold. If you know someone with a stesoscope you can listen to see if it is from the injectors or the lifters. Either way it is a known and common problem among dsm's. I have both injector and lifter noise in my 1g. I still drive it like there is no noise and haven't had any problems at all.
