umm yeah my car is clanking like hell.....like relaly really loud....i think i through a rod but i also have a really bad oil leak near my oil filter. umm i dont know what to do i was gonna send it to a professional to see if its major and the engine is shot? but i wanted to see for myself b4 i spend money on someone looking at it..... save a lil money even though gas prices are going down
i put oil in it the otehr day and when it idled the car was fine....but when i put some gas behind the wheel then the clanking just comes back and its LOUD
some people think its a lifter....but i dont know
Does anyone have any advice? or should i just take it straight to the shop to get it looked at...bc im wanting to take it apart myself....but i dont have a garage to go to and its starting to get quiet cold out now LOL

Do you have an automatic? Try climbing under the car and tightening the three bolts I think it is that hold the torque converter tight, it can be accompilished by rotating the crank clockwise to get to each bolt.

I have the same issue with my '96 5 speed eclipse GS. Trying everything I can think of with "self-diagnosis. Any pointers anyone?
