Fuel leak or pump not working?

Ever since i installed my walbro 190, i've had problems with my fuel. ( i know, just check the pump, right?) but i don't know what to look for. here's the problem. the gas light is always on, but the gauge reads correctly. i put a 5 gallon tank in, and then it only drove like 5-7 miles. ran out of gas, i did this 3 times, exact same each time. when i pop the hood and look for leaks, i don't see any but it does smell *a little* gasy. which might be normal? i'm not sure. it's not super strong, but you can smell it. now i know it's probably something with the pump, but i don't know what to look for when i take the pump back out. any one else had a similar experienece or just know what to look for if the gas isn't getting to the engine (assuming there's no leak). thanks

Have u checked for any leaks by the fuel pump? Make sure you tightened everything down and no leaks are around there. If you are smelling fuel when you pop your hood, did you do anything under the hood? Did you install injectors too?

Your gas light is on because you knocked the sensor off.
In order to pinpoint the gas smell do a boost leak test from the throttle body elbow. Spray soapy water on the fuel injectors and see if there bubbling. You might have to replace the o rings.

i've already replaced the orings and did the boost leak test, no bubbling. also, where is the sensor located on the fuel pump unit?

The "sensor" is on the pump itself. It was the metal arm connected to the small float. Normally the arm connects to a wipe resistor which tells you how much fuel you have.

Do you smell any gas inside the car? When you put your pump back in, did you tighten down the connections under the car tight? Is the return line plugged in at the fuel rail?

yeah, everything down tight and back together, thanks for the suggestions. i think im going to take th pump out and check it out just to see if anything looks out of place. ill keep you guys updated on what i find
