Ok, I think my engine just blew a gasket, literally. I pulled my car out of the driveway and noticed a gargantuan puddle of fresh oil. I put it up on jackstands and saw tranny fluid dripping off of the driver's side cv joint. It's leaking between the round green part(?) and the transfer case. It's been making funny noises lately too. Whenever I turned left, I heard a loud crackling/scraping noise. I don't know: 1. If I can even drive to the shop since I don't know how much fluid is left in the tranny and 2. don't know how much it will cost to have the cv joint replaced. Actually I don't even know if it is the cv joint. It could just be the gasket between the tranny and axle.
Any thoughts?

Sounds like the lip seal between the cv joint and the trans. Best off having the thig towed, due to the unknown amout of trans fluid left, and have it replaced there. Reason being is the axle must come out to replace the seal if removed incorrectly you WILL need an alignment, and if a shop screws it up you'll get one for free.

Awesome, thanks for the info! So how much do you think it wil cost? I'll be able to get a free tow, but after that it'll be coming out of my pocket.

It should't be that much. Maybe 0.7 or 0.8 hours provided they remove the axle right and don't screw up the alignment. Souldn't be more than a $100, it just depends on what the shop charges for labor.
