okay so i found out today that i did actually shoot a rod through my block and my starter, and the guy that is doing my motor swap/rebuild for me says for me to get the 4g64 block/motor. now my question is, didnt the 97-99 eclipses come with a 4g63, cause he's acting like all 97-99 eclipses came with the 4g64, but im pretty sure they didnt. and after just searching and reading a bit i see that the 4g64 came on the spyder models that were not turbo. and my car is turbo. i have a gsx, so then now im confused. would it be a lot more work for me to get the 4g64 block to match up with my 95 4g63 head, or can i just put them together and not have to do anything else? because i dont want to get a 4g64 block and then have a bunch more surprises to get it to work with my head. and also, i should be able to just swap in a whole 4g64 motor (block and head) and be good to go right? but then would i be going from awd turbo to awd non-turbo? i really need some help and fast, i sort of really need to know by today so i can know what to tell the shop guy

The '63 is the 2.0L turbo block, while the '64 is the 2.4L non turbo. You can use the 2.4L block, but you would have to stuff it with forged parts.

You want the '63 block for the least headaches.

One more thing. If this mechanic says they are a direct swap and everything will be fine, GET YOUR CAR OUT OF HIS SHOP.

okay this is what i was wanting to hear and know. but i still need more info and input. i have another question to add. now if the 63 and 64 are the same block, then would i be able to take my turbo components from my turbo 63 block and just direct bolt them on to the 64 block? or will i have to do like a non turbo to turbo conversion like a 420a motor?

I *might* be a little off, I have only started reading up on this recently.

Yes, all of your components will bolt up to the block. The concern is internal. The '64 components are not designed for forced induction. If you did just swap the block in as is, you would be in the relm of the 420A with a turbo kit. Able to put a few PSI through it for a short amount of time... not what you are looking for.

I am pretty sure you will only need to buy the timing belt and cam gears from a dohc 94 galant . The overall height is a tad higher (that's where the extra stroke comes from) hense the belt and cam isssue.

I know there are 5 oil drains that need to be taken care of:

This can be avoided by using a SOHC block though, which is a 6 bolt, not what you want.

There are tons of thread on this. For some reason most people get talked out of doing this swap though.

seems to be a good one. This
