I have a 95 tsi awd. I am hearing a metal on metal noise almost like fins hitting the housing on the t25. Now it goes away when i spool. But when im accelerating slowly and hold it at certain rpms i hear it. what is this. IM afraid to drive the car for fear of damage but no one answered the turbo tick question previously. Turbos got no play at all and its all stock. also turbo isnt pulling as hard as it was kinda sluggish yet no play

sound like i need a new turbo to you? shutters when it gets near full boost wont full boost whistling noise that got louder and louder and now metal on metal sounds?

yeah the "supercharger" sound means that it is shot... do the blades on the compressor look alright? is it play back and forth? or side to side? i dont know if you have a turbo timer or anything, but you could have cooked your bearings... kind of hard to tell without pics or hearing anything.

fan blades are in fact chewed up. No turbo timer but i do turbo time but the man before me didnt and i only had the car a few months. no shaftplay though that i can tell. you guys suspect time for a new turbo?

Yes it's time but more importantly, you need to figure out why so same thing won't happen to the next one. Sure it can be as simple as old age but you should make sure it's not oil starvation or boost leaks.

Mine started to do the same thing, found a boost leak, fixed it for a few weeks, and then it realy started, it had in/out shaft play but not side to side, Sold it on ebay stating it needs a rebuilt, but yeah, time for a new turbo and a turbo timer, I got one for the Evo 3 that i got.

Get it changed out before it realy goes, good luck :thumb:

im swapping in a 14b with the exhaust housing and all. HOpefully this will fix the situation. Do you guys think this swap will take care of the problems?
