okay my daily driver has become my let down lately. I have a 95 n/t eclipse and right now it's having a really bad idle at first it wasn't anything and then at a light it just started sounding like it's missing. I went to go get some spark plugs and wires thinking it was just that put those in no go. rechecked the gap on the plugs, popped them back in nogo. it will idle at 600 then rev to 800. while driving to my mech, my cel light came on so I stopped at autozone to have it checked out and they said that my air idle controll valve was out so I swapped one out started up and wham idled just fine for like 5 mins took it around the block and from about 0-40 it will just start sputtering bad and barely move until I just gun it and it'll hallazz. and anything above 40 is just fine I'll hear a sputtering noise everyonces in awhile. and I always come out of the car smelling like gas because the exhaust just smells like so much gas which it normally never does. once I took it to my mech he checked it out and was stumped which means I'm screwed cause he's really great with dsm's. heres all the things I've changed recently air idle controll because the CEL, spark plugs and wires. one of my o2 sensors. does anyone else ever had anything similar I've searched for 3 days and everyone else has either turbo or nothing really like what mines is doing. sorry for long post thanks.

My 1G AWD is doing pretty much the same thing. The guy I got it from says it started when he changed the plugs and wires. I pulled all the plugs and verified they're gapped correctly to .028. My next step is to verify the coil, cables and "transistor" wherever/whatever that is according to some things I've found around the site here. As far as I can tell he didn't knock loose any electrical or vacuum connections. I've been over the engine bay quite thoroughly. I have seen some indications around the board here that certain plugs are better than others. I'm going to pull one of the plugs again and see what it is. If it's anything other than an NGK, I'm going to replace all four just to be sure.

Also I saw some tips that indicated that an aging fuel filter could cause the behaviour we are seeing, so I'm going to be replacing that as well - you might consider the same.

I feel your pain. I am having the EXACT same problem down to a tee. I have a 97 Eclipse N/T with 100,000 miles on it. If I leave car alone for awhile and engine gets cold everything will be fine when i pull off but when engine gets warm and i come to a stop and try to accelerate again car stutters badly and i kinda smell gas also. 1 thing i did that u havent tried is changing the speed sensors but no luck there so if anyone tell u its that dont believe them. But at least i have someone who understands what i go through now. Keep up to date as i am going to the mitsubishi dealer in a couple days to see what they say.

update well I went and got a code reader sorry and that showed nothing. checked to see if I had any kind of exhaust leak, because someone said that that maybe a problem. nope nothing. also my mech did some weird thing that kinda peaked my intrest he started the car and then took one by one the spark plugs out to see if the car would idle funnier well it did on all four but my number 2 and 3 sometimes he could pull it all the way out and then the car idled the same meaning might be something with ignition. not sure. while I was there I also started messing with the tps sensor didn't get a chance to take it out and clean it which might be a really good idea every time I would hit it or hold it it would make the car idle funnier or run right so I'm thinking about just swapping that out tomorrow after work. but my thing is wouldn't the tps sensor give a cel if it was messed up cause my isc did and well that didn't even solve anything?

I got a 93 N/T and when I changed my Timing belt I got this same or-deal with gas smoke coming out the exhaust and not wanting to idle worth a shit. so i checked my Timing marks again and viola the 2 cam gears were out 2 notches and I put them back where they were sussposed to be and boom problem fixed.

So you guy's might wanna make sure your car is in time properly.

Figured I'd let ya know.
