The car was sitting for some time now about 2 months at my cousins house because of a bad starter (wouldn't crank some time), drained the oil and refilled it with 10w-40 motor oil (not synthetic). Luckly the starter cranked the engine.
I Idled the car for about 10 mins, and drove shifting at 3500 rpm regurally 4000 max.
I gone 4 miles when I started hearing Knocking sounds, I got cautious and drove 2 miles slowly, shifting at 3000 rpm max. I parked at my house and listen to the car while idling and it sounds like a clank, it was louder and faster the higher the rpms went. I shut the car off and checked the oil from the dipstick, there was very little metal shavings from what I can tell from the oil on the dipstick.

So the question is.........is it the rod bearings or something else

If it is the rod bearing is it serious enough to replace the crankshaft? Can I replace it without taking the engine out? and if there is very little metal shavings can I just use 700-800 grit sand paper and gingerly smooth it out???

I dont have the time or a place to take the engine out, so thats kinda out of the question. I dont even have enough money to pay a shop to do this.

I am 80% sure that my main bearings or the cause for the knocking. Usually if its a rod bearing you would not hear it during a cold start? But to make sure I will try out that sparkplug pulling technique to see if it is the rod bearings.

Im 80% sure its the main bearing because the higher the revs is the louder the knock is.

Whats the chance of having both of them wearing out ~_~?

rod and main bearings usually dont go bad from just sitting, are you sure your cousin didnt take it for a joyride one nite???? it could be lifter clatter, things gum up from sitting. :thumb:

Im am 100% sure that he didnt drive it since I had the keys at all times since its attached to my house keys.
How does a lifter clatter sound like??? I never had one, so I dont know.

I dont know how to explain the sound but try some engine flush from your parts store.Wish i could help more.
