Well hey all i recently did a head rebuild on my 97 gs eclipse because of it burning oil. also during the rebuild i added a few goodies under the hood and some other places. but after it came out the garage i took it 4 a ride it sounded fine 4 a few days but i noticed that when i did wot it sounded like it had the power but it had no go but i figured maybe the head was still breaking itself in. then a few days later my check engine light came on. now the car ran relatively ok 4 the first few days but when the cel came on the car started to misfire and sputter and stall out. so i took it 2 my shop and had it diagnosed. it threw 2 codes. po300b and p 1494. i checked them out and one is multiple cylinder misfire, and the other is evap fault. i gave up trying 2 drive it the way it is now. if someone could plz give me some info about whats wrong or maybe had this past experience before. ur help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Brandon

Here what i found :talon:
--Code 1494 points out a loose connection there should be 3 hoses coming off the evap canister.
1 goes to the fuel tank
1 goes to evap purge solenoid
1 goes to evap emission ventilation solenoid or bad evap system
If its not that youve got a bad evap system :thumb:

--code 300b sorry cant be more specific on this one but heres all the possibilities

Ignition coil / Spark plugs / Ignition circuit / Injector / Upstream HO2S / Compression pressure / Timing belt / Crankshaft position sensor / Air intake / Fuel pressure / Crankshaft position sensor circuit and connector / Bad tuning

would that cause poor performance like as i said the engine is nearly redlining and ur doing like 25 LOL i know its sad but just wondering but anyways thanx 4 the feedback all keep em coming

i would also like 2 point out that if i remove my battery terminals for 10 mins and reconnect it the car will run fine for like 3 days straight no misses no stalling no CEL. i don't understand it. i could use some feedback on this thanx all

i read somewhere before that removing the battery for 10 min resets the ecu, so maybe its an ecu prob? sry if it dont help but i tried

i was also told that maybe one of my mods might be causing my problems i highly doubt it but anything is possible i guess

Here is my list of mods

Aem cold air intake
msd racing coil and wires
dc sports racing header and down pipe
high flow cat
2.5 in cat back exhaust with 5 inch tip (big i know)
light weight underdrive pulley

could any of these cause me problems if so let me know

Thanks in advance

^^^^i agree with this guy, disconection of the battery does reset the ecu, so if by resting it and u get no problems for a few days, id check the ecu first and go from there...check it and post and tell me what you find, if it is the ecu i know a place u can send it to get it rebuilt for 160 bucks with a lifetime warranty...

what should i be looking 4 on the ecu ?

would the ecu cause my car not to have power like as i said up above i hit the gas hard and i ain't going no more than 30 or 40 from a stand still with or without the cel and i can only get my car 2 go close to 80 on the highway i know it can go more but it won't go far past that at wot.

i would also like 2 check my timing hoping that it may be just a tooth off or somethin or maybe the cas isn't set right my bro did the timing belt one day while i was away and i assumed it is ok any suggestions and also i will check out that ecu keep em coming guys
thanks

well today i decided to pull my car in the garage and check the spark plugs. they seemed ok none of them were wet and they barely had any black on them but i did notice that my spark plugs were gapped at 50. i moved them down to 35 but i wasn't sure if that would create a problem i havn't driven it yet since i changed the gap except to start it it had a real bad miss and no cel but i did do the key dance and it blinked one then twice then 5 times then 6 times. i am still trying to figure out that code and my brother has my manual rite now and i can't get it till sunday. can anybody help me on that cel code
thanks in advance again

well i got a call today from my mechanic and he told me my timing was 3 teeth off on the timing so this appears to be my problem. i hope i didn't mess up any valves. well i'll post back more when i know it

Wow. I thought you were going to check the timing yourself? Will you be taking this out of your buddy's wallet or his ass?

I'd say keep us updated, but you seem to be doing pretty good at that in this thread. Hope for the best, but expect the worst. (That way, you won't be let down, right?)

I got another call the car is done i went 2 pick it up 2day runs so much better but it still seems kinda slow but the idle is perfect now but when i open it wot it seems it should have more power but it runs better looks like i'm happy and no bent valves as far as i know
thanx for all your help ppl
Brandon

the bolts came out fairly easily u just gotta be careful and take ur time and oh don't forget a can of pb blaster :thumb: if your not careful then chances r u will break them and yes removing the gas cap will take away a substantial amount of pressure

also having an extra set of hands to hold the filter while u crank them loose helps also
