once again im having issues... after driving for around 45 to 60 minutes, especially if im pushing it... my car will start to sputter around 3000 rpm... if i let of the gas and take it out of gear, it stalls. if i stop, it stalls... the CEL comes on after a few sputters... if i let it sit for around 5 minutes after it stalls out, it starts right back up, and im able to drive again for about 5 minutes before it starts doing it again.

read the engine codes. only 351 (primary ignition coil fail) so i replaced the coil (the plugs and wires are all only about 4 months old.)

it ran fine the last week or so, but today it did it again... same error code...

and it's giving my father all the more reason to burn on me for owning a dsm rather than a more american car like his mustang, which he's letting me borrow until i fix this... i'd hate like hell to take it to the dealership. the only mitsu dealer is a 1.5 hour drive from here. all i have around me is a chrysler dealership, and they dont know what the hell theyre doing...

You say it happened again today, same code. Is it the same coil? If so, something is burning those coils. Check your power transistor and the ECU. There are drivers in both (one for each coil). You'll have to get a wiring diagram if you don't have one. I've seen them on here somewhere, I'll look later if you can't find any.

Is that the only code you get? What brought on the problem? How many miles are on your car? Any background info is helpful.

1.) this is the first time it happened with this coil. it is also the first significantly distanced trip i had taken since the replacement of the original coil
2.) what is my power transistor, and how does one go about checking either that or the ecu?
3.) unlike the 4G63, the 420a has only one coil pack.
4.) i have a wiring diagram in the haynes i have for it, but it doesnt help much.

i appreciate the feedback.

so even though i changed my plugs around 2 months ago, i got bored and since i hate driving my dad's mustang gt while im trying to figure this out, i decided to check out the plugs anyway. fouled. badly. but would this cause an ignition coil fault ecu error code? what would cause them to get fouled like that? anyone ever use non-foulers on a dsm before, or is it something that's not recommended...?
