my friend has a problem with his car. For starters his compression reads #4 60psi #3 81psi #2 119psi #1 121psi. His head was rebuilt about 3wks before it broke down. the car starts and shuts off when it wants to. He was driving the car and it cut off on him, but when he kept his foot on the throttle above 3500rpm the car would stay a running. He needs alot of help.

Define stops.. as in the car shuts off as if he took the key out or it stumbles and dies. The first leads to ingition/lock area.

I also recomend picking up a new short block, that one is... a little tired.

The service limit on compression for 1G's is 114PSI and all cylinders within 10% of each other. That means that two cylinders are barely above the service limit and two are very much below, so it's time for a teardown and a rebuild.

If he fixed that, it's likely problem may go away. On a normal engine, you can turn it off, coast down a hill, and as long as you're still in gear and still moving you can turn the key back to "On" and the engine will fire right back up (without touching the starter.) This is because the momentum of the car turns the engine over when it's in gear, acting like a starter.
