Ok, I just got a 1g talon that had 8 bent exhaust valves so I replaced them and put the head back on, after I got every thing back together I started it up and this damn ticking will not go away, I let it idle for 5 to 10 min and is there.

I noticed the timing belt is off one tooth, could the bad timing cause the valves to tick?

Thanks for your help in advance.

I just let it idle for another 15 or 20 min, the ticking stoped for about 2 min and came back. Arrrrrrrrrrrr.

It shouldent take this long for the lifter to prime right?

Was it ticking before there before you did the work? It may be your HLA's(lifters) or it may be your valves. Who did the valve job? Did you/they grind the valves/seats?

yes one tooth does make a diffrence. with two teeth off u can bend ur valves again. use a timming gun to see if the timing is off.

Re time the engine and recheck it. If you still have the tick it may be your lifters. If they're dirty then they're going to tick constantly. Since the engine is assembled already then I would suggest to just flush out the crankcase. There's a few ways to do that. You can use actual crankcase flush solvent, or also just a little bit of ATF works really good because of all the detergents in it. If you go with the over the counter stuff I would reccomend using either BG crankcase flush or Marvel mystery oil. To use the BG stuff all you do is pour the stuff in your crankcase and let the car idle for about 15-30 minuites and then chance the oil and filter. To use the Marvel mystery oil it comes in a bigger bottle and it's really thin as well because you use about 1/2 of it in the crankcase and run it just like with the BG stuff and put the other 1/2 in the gas tank and it cleans the fuel system and injectors. Both products work really well. I've used both of them and had great results with dirty ticking lifters. I've also used about 1/2 quart of trans fluid replacing 1/2 quart of oil so you don't overfill the crankcase and you have to actually drive the car for a little while. Somewhere around 100-200 miles should be good. After that just change the oil and you should be good. The trans fluid takes longer but works almost just as good. Not sure about it breaking down the baked on oil sludge like the flush does but it will quiet noisy lifters.

Sounds to me like it's the lifters. I had the same problem and installed the 3g revised lifters, which fixed the problem. I removed my camshafts to install the lifters. When you remove the camshafts you have to remove your timing belt. When you reinstall everything you can fix your base timing and make sure that all of your timing marks are line up. If you do this, your ticking should go away. Spoolin98 and myself changed my lifters, reassembled my engine, and started it back up in under 3 hours.
