92 talon tsi trying to replace rotors and pads, can't compress the piston in the caliper, tried huge c-clamp and it did nothing but bend the c-clamp a little


read a manual says special tool needed on calipers with integrated e-brake--thats what I have

went to the parts store and bought a funky little square gizmo that said it was for turning in disc brake pistons--the damn thing doesn't even fit in the caliper


now I can't even get the old brakes back on to drive it to a garage to fix

ready to have it towed---I hate this car

any advice???---where can I get the so called special tool?? where on the net is there detailed descriptions on how to change these brakes????

Yup. The piston threads back into the caliper. I looked at the notches in the piston and cut up a piece of pvc pipe to fit. It was somewhat soft, but did the trick! Pliers could slip and damage the piston seal.
 
If you've cranked on the pistons hard enough to bend a C-clamp, you've probably destroyed them.

Are you just diving into this job without a manual? Like many rear-discs of the time, they screw back in.

That is what you need, either you've destroyed the piston or you are not using the tool right. You do know you're suppose to turn it as you push, right?
 
got it done , using the square gizmo was awkward as all hell --at 1 point I thought about taking the calipers off the car and putting them in a vice for a stable hold on them



still need to bleed the brakes more

I really thought there would be clear instructions on how to do this,somewhere on the net
 
I've worked at a Sears Autocenter in the past and seen so many rear disc brake assemblies trashed because the previous shop would just force the piston flush rather than use the adjustment screw behind it. I don't remember many vehicles requiring use of a special tool - most would back out with a hex or star bit. It's a good thing you didn't destroy the threads there or you would have some further frustration to deal with :thumb:
