Oil pressure gauge suddenly works

Up until now, my oil pressure gauge didn't work. It just sat at L. I installed an AFPR, and then all of a sudden, the oil pressure goes up to H. I mean, it just shoots up there, and stays there. The car seems exactly the same, no other problems.

I'm guessing the sender unit is bad?

But why would it start to work all of a sudden?

Sounds like the sender wire found its way to ground.
