well after about 3 months of driving my first car (97 gst) i have come to what i think may be the end of my first car. im a delivery driver for a pizza place so i drive my car everywere. so the other night it raind and i had to make a delivery to a place were i guess ther are massiv puddles. i made the delivery no prblem but then getting back was were i got into trouble. i started at this puddle that i didnt think was soo bad and about 1/4 into it my caR DIED would not start. now itsa bout 35 out side so i had to run out of my car thur the nee deep water and go to the nearest house. i called a toe truck, they said it would be a hour and about 30 minn afteri called they said it was goning to be another hour because the state police needed help. do i called another toetruck and they came in liek 20 minn the guy pulled the car our and toed it to my work. when i got there i opend my door to find 3 inches of water inside my car. i then tyred to start it and nothign happend . i went back yesterday and the water was now frozen and the car still hasted started. i reported it to my inshurance so i am hoping for the car to be ither under inshurance and fixable or for it to be seized and rendered totaled . if that is the case im just going to take the inshurance money n buy a 95 or 97 that are for sale in my area .. if eanyone has eany other idea of what i should do let me know .. im only 17 so i dont know much :dsm: :barf:

You said the puddle wasnt to bad and you tried to drive through it...yet...you had 3 inches of water in the car? That would be deep enough to soak some pretty important engine parts. Hm, what happens when you submerge the engine in water? Ideas? Check under the hood to see if your air filter etc is all soaked. Check the timing belt side of the motor to see if your belt and all pulleys etc got soaked. Odds are it's time for a rebuild, maybe the timing belt slipped. How in the hell do people do this.....

And one more thing, knee deep water for my car = intake in the water = water in the turbo and motor = possible full rebuild.

My car isn't even lowered either.

First of all I wouldn't be driving a 97 GST to deliver pizza. Pick you up a 88-91 Civic beater for cheap. They can get good gas mileage. I got 35mpg on my modded 91 SI. The stock HF/DX I have heard of people getting 45+ mpg.

Ok anyways. If they total it, buy it back from them. (should be cheap) Pull the motor, rebuild with aftermarket parts, reinstall, enjoy the "built" motor your insurance just paid for.

Your car is royally ####ed now and it's all because of your stupidity. Never would I drive a car like that for delivering pizzas.

LOL. Dude, I've even seen 300zx's and 3000gt VR-4's delivering pizzas. ####ing crazy.

On a side note, I would never even consider...it wouldn't even CROSS my mind attempting to drive my car through 2-3" of water, let alone knee deep. I would have sat there and eaten the damn pizza and waited for the water to go away. Either way it's cheaper then the outcome of hydrolocking, or just getting water all up in your shit (t-belt, cab, tranny/etc).

So does it turn over?

Do you have power?

Try pulling the plugs and letting the engine air out, check your intercooler piping for water.

Hydro locking is when the engine wont turn over because of the cylinder pressures "lock " the engine still and that happens becasue water doesnt compress.

I would have sat there and eaten the pizza

 :p

gabgst: This will turn out to be a blessing. Rebuild it, be the fastest pizza delivery m/f out there. 30 min or less!!!!!! For real though tear it down and then build it. Good luck. :dsm:

Take off the inter cooler. clean it out. Its one of the lowest places on the intake. If theres alot of water in it take all intake hoses out and let them dry. Intake cleaner will help air out the hoses and make them dry. CHANGE THE OIL!!! After putting the hoses back let it idle for a short while. Change the oil again to ensure that all water is out of the engine. Water in the oil is the biggest issue. Otherwise just let the car air out. Ive swamped several trucks and 4wheelers that are still running. you should be ok. If it doesent work just put the car in the DSM classifieds ;)

Before you try to crank it over again pull your spark plugs so you dont hydrolock the engine and break rods. Pull off the lower innercooler pipe and drain any water out of the IC that may be sitting in it.

I ran my car in water that was halfway up my windows.(Flash flood) After pulling the spark plugs and vacuuming out the cylinders with a shop vac and replacing all my fluids and accessory belts, I let it dry for a day, put it back together and was good as new. Give it a try, you may luck out, no sense writing off a perfectly good DSM if all it needs is a little care.

BTW-UofACATS... I'm the fastest delivery mofo out there, well out here anyway.

I tend to agree with the past few posts, hydrolocking is overplayed. You should be fine. It would help us alot though if you said that it was turning over or not. If its not turning over, it could very well be an electrical issue, such as something getting wet thats not supposed to... Something to think about...

ok well today it was waromenof for the the water to melt and we took of the ic piping and about a gallon of water came out n then we took the intake n directrly hooked up to the intakemanifold and it tryed to turn over .. so tomaorw were hoping for warm weather so it will start, then all i have to do is shop vac out all the water inside my car

Chances are your #4 connecting rod looks like this:
