So I just bought a 95 Eclipse GS, 130,something miles on it and when I 1st shifted into 3rd, the check engine light came on stayed on...and between 2nd and 3rd, every so often it felt laggy, like it had no go..I was told it was the timing belt

Now I was told this is like half a day job, I wont be getting it back for two weeks... What should I look for when I get it back?

I prevoiusly owned a 95 Talon TSi AWD with around the same mileage, and I had cracked the engine block when I shifted into 3rd gear, shot my piston through my oil pan, and I have no idea how, it was stock....I'm decent with car knowlandge, but not very good yet, ill be going to school for it so... Try to explain to me in lame mans terms please =)?

Maybe i should just stay away from 3rd gear ?

Thanks in advanced
