so my buddy and me just installed a Greddy boost gauge on our '90 Plymouth Laser then took it for a drive. when the turbo is fully spooled it just maxes out the the gauge. i dunno if it's a problem w/ the waste gate or turbo or what. we have an MBC but it's not installed. only mods are Greddy BOV and Centerforce clutch on a recently rebuilt engine. it's a 2 bar Greddy gauge. any help would be apreciated. thanks in advance.

It's most likely boost spiking, install you MBC and set it at an applicable psi for what your setup is. Then, it should not max out. Check vfaq for the MBC install if you are not sure how to do it. Let me know how it goes. -M

it is an electronic yes. and i know it's 28 psi... that's why it's sooo damn weird.

im not so sure it would be a good thing to install the MBC right now if it might be something to do w/ the gauge you know. i don't like the idea of blowing up turbo's and all. are you sure that would fix it? i've never heard of a boost spike that high on a turbo that can't even handle that much... come to think of it... im pretty sure it's impossible on the 14B...

Putting a MBC on won't blow up your turbo, esp. if you use it to lower your boost... I would get a friend to lend you a mechanical boost guage and see if it's the guage or a spike

Exactly, put it on, and set it at a psi that is adequate for YOUR set up. or even less the adequate.

I am the guy that is working with Powder on the laser. First thing I thought of after maxing out the gauge was install the MBC to see if I could turn the boost down and fix the problem, it didnt. The MBC is a Greddy Type Mini. Is anyone familiar with this MBC? I have it installed between the intake manifold vacuum line that runs to the fuel pressure solenoid (same vacuum line the boost gauge is hooked up to) and then I ran the MBC inline to the wastegate actuator. This was how I was told to run them both by a DSM forum member. I tested the wastegate last night using a bicycle pump and no matter what psi I pumped the wastegate to, the gauge on the pump lost pressure which is telling me that the wastegate is working properly. Anymore info on this is appreciated.

if your pumping air into the wastegate and you loose pressure then you have a faulty wastgate. The air you pump into the wastegate should hold and the arm should move as it builds pressure.

OOOOOHHHHHH. So I had it backwards. I wasnt looking at the wastegate arm to see if it was moving at all, but it didnt matter how much air I pumped into the wastegate actuator, it just seemed to loose pressure. Kinda like there was a huge hole in a tire if you were pumping up a tire. It lost it fast too. Well then that explains it. Wastegate is bad!!! Thank you for your help. If there are anyone else that can confirm that the wastegate is the culprit, please let me know.

Now that I know the MBC was hooked up, and explained how, I will agree with spyder on the wastegate assumption. -M

Sounds like our problem is finally solved! Thank you to all that helped, you saved my friends and I alot of money! :thumb:
