So lately my car has been acting strange volt wise. I decided to go out today and I added a 4gauge ground wire from the alt to the block. I went to hook the negative back up on my battery and it shot HUGE sparks. It tightened it down and everything and went and started the car. Starts fine. I tried to power on my CD player, no power.. hmm maybe a fuse, no problem. Well I went to turn the lights on and they come on, well my horn/alarm goes off and becomes a constant horrendous roar and willnot stop and the lights will not turn off, unless I disconnect the battery.

I disconnected the new ground wire and it still does the same thing. Any ideas guy? This one has me stumped, and worried. Thanks

Why r u putting in a ground wire on alt? The alt bolt into the block is far better than any 4 ga wire. If you want a bigger ground wire put it between the block and car body and/or block to battery negative.

I was under the impression you could add one from the alt. I linked the problem to the blown 100amp fuse and got it replaced. It's running fine now. I was having voltage problems.. anyways I tightened the ground on the alt. up and seems im not having voltage spikes right now.

EDIT: well it looks like my idea may have worked out right, had I placed the wire in the correct spot on the alternator. I strapped it under that red cover. Guess thats a big no-no.
