i was driving down the highway today and glanced over at my oil pressure gauge. i was going 75 at 3300 rpm in 5th and noticed that my oil pressure gauge was all the way down at the bottom line. but my engine temp gauge was half up like normal, never got hotter.

what do you guys think? no oil pressure or bad gauge?

i am thinking bad gauge. I tried to shut off the car and restart it to see if it reset, but nothing.

most likely the plug from the oil pressure sending unit came off. Mine does that all the time. Check down by the oil filter housing to see if the plug came off the sensor. :thumb:

As "trbotaln" posted more than likely it's the _electrical_ "plug" or a broken wire at the sending unit on the oil filter. This will have only 1 wire and a simple quick repair.

However your post was a bit unclear in that you tried to shut the car off and restart but we don't know if you could do this or the car is still running... we can only guess that it restarted and your gauge is still showing nothing.

If the wire has not fallen off or broken then you must check further, with a mechanic's test light attached to ground and the probe touching the wire the light will light and the gauge should go up quite high, perhaps all the way to the max with the key turned to the on position. If this does not happen you will have an electrical problem which will require more diagnosis and time.

Cheers,
GTM
