I'm trying to get the axle off but am having no luck. ( don't even ask why it's coming off ) ... anyways all the suspension components are unhooked, the axel is NOT in the trans, and the big 32mm axel nut is removed as well. I just can't get it to slide through the hub ... it's not moving at all. The passenger side came out after a few hard whacks but this side isn't budging. Can I heat it up and pound the hell out of it or is that asking for trouble? I don't really want to buy a new one :thumbdown

try using a hub remover.... it bolts onto the hub and has like a peice in the middle along a shaft that u pull which puts presure on the hub by pulling it and then removes it. I cant really explain it that well.... sorry but i hope this helps a bit...

I had a hard time getting my drivers front off also. My dad had to split the nut off first( it broke two breaker bars) then i had to hold a round 1" thick washer with vice grips on the end of the axle while my dad hit it with a big hammer. It took like half an hour to get it out, but it did mess the threads up on the end. I thought it was junk but my dad filed the threads and the nut went back on when we reassembled it.

It shouldn't require the assistance of a machine shop, but if you read this, the poor guy couldn't get his axle out either, took it to a machine shop with some sort of puller, and it required 10 tons of force to get the thing out. In that case, you can hammer it all day but it's going to stay put. Good luck and I hope you don't have to resort to this.
