Hey i just put a used TB on my 91 tsi cause the shaft seals in my other one blew out....and i had an extra one layin around so just switched them. First problem is my idle is surging...which is prob the TPS im assuming cause i didnt use my old one. Second is when i put the TB on and all was good i drove the car .... and on the way home my air/fuel gauge just went blank out of know where...but thing is when car is idleing and it surges up in rpms the first red led goes on the gauge...and goes away when it surges down? Even if i mash the gas when i am driving i get no response from the gauge.....please help me out this is driving me crazy guys!!!.

your oxygen sensor is probably on its way out. or maybe a loose wire?

Please tell me you didn't throw away the throttle body with the bad seals WITH a working ISC on it. I'm willing to bet it's your ISC and not the TPS that is causing the problem. You should have one of each now so go swap the ISC first, if it fixes it, great. If it doesn't, put it back and swap the TPS.
By the way, throttle shaft seals take about 10 minutes to replace. 8 of those minutes are spent getting those damned TB plate screws off. :thumb: I believe the replacement is a #7 o-ring from any hardware or plumbing store and some new grease.

Well i messed around with the tps a bit ...that and i also used my old ISC and now the surging has stopped. But i am still havin problems with the air/fuel gauge...and it didnt start til i replaced the TB. It works until i drive for about 15 min then it dies out again...ive checked for loose wires all over and cant find any i have no idea whats goin on with it.

how did you hook up your gauge? did you go through the ECU or did u just tap in to the o2 housing part? as in the wire from the sensor? do you have a good ground? mine kept on cutting out do it was #1 grounding itself out from the power line and also a bad ground
