Hey all. I was driving and all of a sudden I noticed that the car wasnt boosting over 7lbs anymore and then it wouldnt boost at all. Then the engine shut off and it would start again. I had the car towed to a mechanic but what do you think is wrong? Would the turbo dying cause the car to not start? I have read posts of people who has had their turbos blow and their car still starts. I dont know what could be wrong.

Thanks for any help.

Yes, it should still start with a blown turbo. It could be a lot of things, when it happen to me it was the ecu. Since you've already towed it to a mechanic just post back what he says so we can tell you if it makes sense or not.

weird... Apparently the timing belt is off and I know it must have been like this for a while because the timing belt was changed over a year ago and the car was still driving with no weird noises-although the compression in two of the cylinders are low (read my profile) and it has been blowing out white smoke for a while. I just didnt think it would be possible for the car to run for so many miles with the timing off. They are going to correct the timing and then do a compression test to see if there is anything else wrong with it. Is it possible for the car to run and drive with the timing off? Those poor valves :( Strange that it finally decided to cut out on me and not start though... any thoughts? ideas?

ps, the ECU had been replaced less than 2 years ago. thanx all

they said that the balance shaft belt broke. The shards of it got caught up in the timing belt and caused it to get miss alaigned. It probably bent some valves, but I wont know until later. If the valves get bent, does that mean I would need a new head? or can the valves be replaced? Thanks

:( Sorry to hear that, How much was the timming off? Acouple of tooth wouldn't bent valves. Good luck.

Well it was still cranking over fine and I didnt hear any metal on metal so we'll see. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Update: No compression in any cylinder. Looks like I need a new/remanufactured head. Any ideas on where to get one for a good price? They mechanic has a machinist that he would send it to for like $500. I will probably end up having him do it because I work 7 days a week and dont have the time. This sucks. But hey, it has 185K miles on it.

If you plan to do a lot to your car and money is not an issue, you might want to rebuilt it with after market components.
