Hi guys, I tried searching, and it didn;t reveal any specific answers.

My brother's car is a '97 5speed GSX. The battery was dead when he tried starting it this morning, 15 degrees. I jumped it, and it seemed to be fine. He drive it three miles with no problems and then it began bogging down while in neutral and would stall. Basically it would stall when he pressed in the clutch to get it in gear, or let it idle. He said the brake, abs, oil, and bettery lights would come on.

Is this a boost leak or something else. Tomorrow, I am trying to drive it home and will check for leaks, but until then, I don't know.

Well dont know if you have fixed this probably already or not but The first thing I would do is check the battery. lots of times when a battery is almost dead it will make all the lights in your dash go on and it will have problems where its just bogging down the car. I would try to either test the output of the battery or atleast put your battery in his car and drive it around see if it makes a difference. if not then start looking for boost and vacume leacks.

If you need help let me know.

If your driving around, it should be fine if the alt. is working. I have heard of a couple people getting the car started and driving a little bit with out a battery in the car. I had almost the same problem. Im getting a new alternator on monday, but my battery was pretty dead to so we will see.

OK, so what you guys are saying, is a dead battery can make a car bog down and stall like that?

Either way, I am going down to the shop this week to get my battery out my car to put in his to see what it does.

From what my understanding no. I might be wrong though, the only thing I thought the battery might affect is start up. But im not sure. Give your battery a good charge, and if it dies after a couple of drives then my guess would be the alt.
