Last night I went for a ride. Key turned in the ignition without any problem- like always. This morning the key will not turn in the switch, though it will still unlock the doors and hatch. I tried my two spare keys but they will not work either. What happened? Can the switch be repaired without it being switched from "lock?" Should I just replace the switch?
Help. Tom

This may sound like a dumb question, but have you tried moving the steering wheel while turning the key? If there is pressure on the steering wheel, the key wont always turn. Just wiggle the wheel and see what happens....
good luck!

Tried that, thank you.

Mine acts g4y like that sometimes, but if i turn it really quickly it works, yes it's very strange.

It's difficult to explain, but i just do it quickly, and it doesn't encounter the same friction, and turns fairly easily.

From Rule #4:

"We do have a vulgarity filter - don't try to get around it by using different spellings of the vulgarity. If the word is not allowed, don't use it."

It's part of the board software. So we can't say ####, shit, ####, piss, mother####er, ########## or tits. Well, okay, you can say those ones, but not the rest. Because the goddamned ###s are taking over every facet of the entertainment world, so it'll be safe for us all because we won't be able to be mean to anyone anymore.

Meanwhile, back at our topic, your key and/or ignition lock is bazootied, the lock most likely from the poor car having a woman driver in its past, one of the usual who think they need enough shit hanging off their keyring that they could stop the Titanic with it as an anchor if they see the iceberg in time. New ignitions with keys show up on eBay fairly often, for cheap, and they are easy to swap out. Then you could pretend you own a Chevy, and have one key for the door and one for the ignition.

Always run automobile ignition keys naked. Bare, completely naked.

Holy zoot suits Batman I thought I was the only one who still preached about naked ignition keys and boat anchors.

Thank you for your response. I was afraid that I would have to replace the Ignition but wasn't sure. What bothers me is the complete lack of warning of this malfunction- there were never any indications of a developing problem.
