I dont know how many of you have this problem but I had it in my talon before I sold it as well. Everytime I turn on the car, the engine makes like a CLKCLKCLKCLK noise and it goes away in like 2 seconds. Well the last 2 DSM's i test drove did the same thing @ start up?

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? I don't think its the belts, cuz the belts make a squeeky noise, and how do you fix this problem?

Well you really need to define what is making the noise.
Have some one start the car and then you pin point the noise.

I really dont know what is starting the noise. On the 92 TSi it was on the side of the belts, but on the 97 its on the left side of the engine, i really cant tell where it is?
 
so if you have your head in the bay while someone else starts the car you CANT tell where the noise is comming from?
 
Lifters.

If it goes away after 2 seconds, its just the lifters priming with oil on startup. Dont worry bout it. Consider yourself lucky, as some of us have lifter tick that DOESNT go away. (myself included)

If you REALLY want to solve it, get a set of the 3G revised lifters, theyre like $150 or so.
 
It's not the lifters.

If you have someone start the car for you while you are in front of the engine bay, you will notice it is coming from the starter.

My car does the same thing. :thumb: well, i guess that's not a thumbs up. :thumbdown
 
My point is that you have to define what area its comming from.
#1 valve cover = lifters or vlaves.
#2 starter area = starter
#3 little metal box on the left top back wall= linjector pack
#4 belt side = could be the balancer seperating

See what I mean?
 
simple to do

jack car up ( place on jack stands if possible)
take off driver side tire
pull belts off
put floor jack under car on oil pan and support engine.
pull off inside wheel well cover.
remove motor mount by timing cover
remove bolts holding balancer (4)( use 1/2in size extension to keep engine from turning)
lower/raise engine as needed to get balancer past frame

put in new balancer and put back together.
