Ok.....followed vfaq directions to bypass the o2 sensor exactly.........my o2 sensor did not come on the first time I started the car and did not come on the first 10 min it was running. I then turned the car off and let sit for approx 10 min, started iut again and I popped a cel, because i do not have a datalogger, i cannot scan it and clear it.

Look at www.vfaq.com/mods/O2bypass.html

This is what I did I took the 1Mohm resistor, soldered to the blue wire and soldered on end of it to the 1 micro-farad capacitor. Then i soldered the other end of the capicitor to the white wire. From there I took the two black wires soldered them to quick dicsonnects and soldered both of them to the ends of the 12ohm resistor.

Shrink rapped then pluged back into the ECU side of the harness.

What did I do wrong? Was I supposed to follow the way the diagram shows on the second diagram on vfaq? What else could be the prob?

Who else has done this? Was there any probs when you did it?

PLEASE HELP ASAP!!!!!!!!!

thks

I am glad you brought this up. My wife's 97GST is acting up in the same way. Turbo back exhaust with no cat and tapped 2nd O2. What exactly is the logger saying the code is? And what is the code?

To elimate the CEL you can either mount the 2nd O2 sensor outside the exhaust, instlal a resisitor, or use DsmLink:

If you mount the O2 sensor outside the exhaust it will read differently then the front O2 and "think" that the Cat is working

If you install a 1 Megaohm 1/4 watt resistor on the black wire of the O2 sensor you can fool the ECU into thinking it is working correctly

Finally if your considering DSMLink it does have a feature to disbable this CEL.

My wifes' is mounted sorda outside. It almost looks like an ant mound with the sensor sticking out of it. Right under the rear driver side seat.

where is the cheapest place to buy dsm link and can you explain to me exactly how to mount the 2nd o2 sensor outside the exhaust and also explain to me the process of how, where i can get a resistor and how to install?

thk you, tyler

I am not to sure the code #, I forgot ........ LOL

The only place to buy DSMLink is dsmlink.com but you will need an E-Prom. To mount the O2 outside the exhaust just simply tie it off in a plastic bag and zip-tie it somewhere on the undercarriage. Finally i can't recall the part # for the resistor, but I do remember someone on this site posting a wiring diagram for it. Try searching for it and you might have some luck

I tried a search for the resistor wiring diagram, nothing.

Please help and if you have not read the post before there is a update up top.

thks

your best bet would be to just tie it outside....dsmlink is expensive if your getting it just for that...you can get the resistor im sure at radio shack...and the reason you got it all of a sudden is because the sensor is finally clogged up full of shit...so you might have to try to clean it up before it works right again

well i want to make a resistor ........ LOL ........ apparently there is a diagram on this site of how to make one and I was just wondering if anyone knows where i can find it.

Ok man, you recently replied to my topic Check engine light ----resistor.

Well a guy posted a wiring diagram from vfaq for me on that topic. I looked at it and it kind of conflicted of what you told me to do. I was wondering if you could look at that diagram and tell me EXACTLY what to do in freakin ENGLISH.

The link has freakin words I never used before HAHA.

What is confusing me is all the extra steps that are included in there compared to just cutting the balck wire and installing the 1 mega ohm 1/4 watt resistor.

If you could help me out ASAP!

I would appreciate it.

thks tyler

Don't bump your posts

I looked at the diagram and it is about as straightforward as it gets. Those directions are in english, at least more so than any other electrical diagram i've seen recently. If you don't understand them then I would suggest looking up the terms you don't understand on google to get a better grasp of the project or get one of your more electronically inclined friends to help you.

I forgot to check Vfaq for that diagram. I looked at the vfaq and it seems pretty complete in explanation. If you are confused on the parts print out the Vfaq and take it to RadioShack and ask them to help you. I highly recommend though that if you don't know exactly what your doing or you can't find someone who does not to attempt to build it. If wired incorrectly the resistor could possibly overheat which COULD start a fire. I suggest that you just tie the O2 sensor in a plastic bag and mount it on your undercarriage.
