Shortly after buying my 91 GSX, I took off the upper intercooler pipe only to find a bit of oil mixed with a sand like substance sitting in the pipe. I also took off the intake pipe right after my MAS to find it completely coated in a thick, old looking oily film with metal flakes. I have done quite a bit of searching but have found nothing. Some info about the car:

109K motor put in recently. runs great

crappy BOV venting into atmosphere.

Newer turbo with no shaft play. fins look OK

Also, where the BOV is venting twards the hood, you can see an oily film where oil has sprayed from the BOV. I am stumped. Thanks in advance for any replys.

The inlet to your PCV system is leaking, which is normal. You can fix it by eliminating the system or by installing a catch can.

First, put back the 1g bov and recirculate it.

The oil in your intake track is coming from the valve cover breather valve. You can eliminate the hose and run it to a oil catch can.

This would explain the oil in the UIP, but the oil all over the intake pipe has me worried. I am hoping that it is just residue from when the previous engine was in. I will get a breather or catch can asap.

The hose from the valve cover routs back to your intake pipe.

what about the metal mixed with the oil? I hope it was from the old turbo, if not I may have to get it replaced.

Are you sure they were metal? Maybe they're just dirt.

I sorta had the same problem in my 2nd Gen. Since I purchased an extended warranty (very glad I did) I took it in and they said it was bad seals in the turbo. So they replaced the turbo and WG for me. I actually havent checked my pipes lately, but the pipes were still clean when I put my hardpipes on about a week later. Hope this helps -matt
oh, and the turbo that had bad seals only had 4k miles on it and runnin stock boost. (t-25)

Thanks people. I will install a catch can and see what happens when I run the car. If oil persists, its probably the turbo. I might replace it while im getting my tranny built by Shep. :thumb:
