I just rebuilt my engine (just the top-end, not the bottom), and upon the first start there is a horrible squeel. The area seems to be around the timing belt. I do not have the top cover on it so I can see it and it looks fine.

The squeel is intermittent and at a slower rpm than the engine itself. It is squeaking slower than the crank, and also slower than the cams, but it is definitely repetitive and intermittent. The longer I leave it running, the louder it gets so I shut it off after like 5 seconds.

Has anyone ever heard of such a thing or have any suggestions?

Hey man, I just redone all the gaskets (rear main, oil pan, timing, oil pump, water pump) and put a new water pump, timing belt, and balance shaft belt on. When I started the car, the timing belt squaked for quite a while. After about an hour, I guess it stretched enough and stopped squalling. Good Luck.
