i have a 91 gsx with a hand full of mods, the problem is that my car is burning oil, and a lot of black/ light blusih smoke is coming out of my ass when i gas it hard or basically when i start boostin and a lil white smoke comes out when i let off. my mechaninc that specializes in my car told me that i might need a complete piston rebulit kit, but that is kinda expensive for me. i know it runs for about $600, but if i dont need that and i just need piston rings, then that would save me a great deal of money. so i need ur input on what i should do, any input would be great.

Check your compression to see how that is, then drop a bit of oil in the cylinder with lowest compression and see if it goes up. If it goes up, then you need new rings.

Also, how old is your turbo? Those burn oil as well as they start to die.

I wouldn't just jump in with a 'piston rebuild kit' just yet, and whatever that is, it shouldn't cost $600 unless it includes labor.

The turbo that i have now is a big 16g, and its no more than 1-2 years old, i bought it brand new. but i will try that if u have any new info for me please let me know thanks. what do u think though does it look like i just need new rings? i checked the compression like 2-3 months ago, and all 4 read 140 and one of the cylinders red like 150 or 160.

Yea, it could be. Thats kinda low...I think the service limit is somewhere around 130. Test it again with oil in it to see if that helps...with any luck it could me a seal in your head. If it does end up being your rings, all you need is to have it re-honed and put new rings in it. If you can labor yourself, it can be re-honed for dirt cheap, and rings can be had for like $90.
