I noticed a clip is missing off my waste gate actuator, and I'm not sure if this is the reason why my boost won't rise past 7lbs and it takes so long to build to that point.

this is a TSi 1992 talon, stock turbo

the boost is still there, it just takes a LONG time to build past 7lbs.. and then that's about all I can get before I hit general speed limits that I'm required to drive at :D

I would really like to know if the waste gate issue would cause this. I want my boost back :thumbdown

as long as the arm is still connected then it's shouldn't be your wastegate. Sounds more like a major boost leak somewhere.

The arm isnt staying on, the little clip dissapeared, probably ninjas in the night :p

is there somewhere I can get that stupid retainer clip?

if I find that the waste gate actuater isnt to blame and I have "major" boost leakage then I guess pulling the turbo and the exhaust manifold might be my next step and seeing if anythings damaged.. maby I'll order a new turbo and send in my old one as a core.

this 7 bolt engine isnt worth spending thousands of dollars on to upgrade to a 500hp engine, it'll crank walk from here to germany.

but I do like the stock boost, and I want it back :(

it's not a cotter pin, it's a press washer. I picked one up at the auto store in a kit of several differnt sizes for 99 cents and now I'm pushing 14 lbs like normal.

Thanks for everyones help, I can't belive it was simply the wastegate auctuator arm being disengaged that caused that..

Wastegate = very important part of turbo!

My car just had the same situation.. it boosted to 16 for months then one day never really boosted past 6-8. Fast forward 3 weeks to today.. out of nowhere my car suddenly began boosting normally again! Should I just keep enjoying the boost or get off my butt and do what Melio did w/the washer?

On all the DSM's I've seen it's a cotter pin, I would guess stainless given the heat. The press washer will work until it looses it's temper and then fall off.

i pulled off my manifold/o2 sensor housing and was replacing things one day and i lost the clip for it. i drove 10K w/o a clip on it and it boosted 1t 12PSI stock on the dot consistantly. never had a problem till my crank walked..again.. f'ing dsm's
