Well I was racing a 04 cobra top end and like 10 minutes later engine shut down. Took the oilpan off and found #4 piston(closest to tranny) in about 100 pieces and this bent rod. Also the rod was lose on the crank as well. Anyone have an idea of what happened?

Something major happend! and its time for a 6Bolt unless you going to rebuild your 2gen motor well good luck and itsgoing to cost you some cash!!! Your oil was prob low too!! bad bad! well your going to learn from your mistakes! did you atleast beat the Cobra!!! it cost you a motor so you better have WON!!! hahah well good luck and get other upgrades while your at it! clutch and flywheel is good! hahah got tolove DSM'S!!! :dsm: :thumb:

So what would be the reason for low oil pressure? Anyway I could be sure on it. It was a 6bolt already and I plan to do a stroker but I want to make sure it doesn't happen again.

OMG DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN!

How many miles are on that engine? How hard did you run it? I'd say it's safe to say the crank is toasted too.

one of two things happened there
#1 MASSIVE DETONATION
#2 some how you hydolocked that thing like the injector dumped onough fuel into it and the spark didnt fire ( liquid isnt compressable :p )

Shit I need to figure this out so it doesn't happen again w/ the rebuild. I don't care about the crank, I'm going to build a stroker. So anyway I can figure out what happened?

Well right off I assume you did not have the logger going so lets start with the basics.

Have the injectors tested to make sure that #4 didnt stick open.

Was there any other damage to the engine like the head gasket blowing "in" coolant and hydrolocking the #4?

Like I said there are only two things that will bend that rod like that.

Both of the two things involve trying to compress to much liquid.

I dont see lost oil pressure smashing just one piston but to make sure take a look at the rest of the internals for oil starvation.

You said the piston was shattered and the rod is bent real high on the shaft so I am going with my previous thoughts but check the oil situation out for giggles.

Gosh I bet that block is trashed though huh

Have you ever ended a sentence without "!!!!!"

How do you check injectors? Is there a tool or something. I'll check out the hg tommarrow to see if it had a leak. Only thing w/ that is i never saw any white smoke. Also from just a quick look every other rod was fine so oil loss doesn't seem that bad. Also if this helps the rod looked blue which to me seemed to mean major heat. Surprisingly the block isn't in that bad of condition. Yea theres some scratches but nothing really deep. Also I think the head is ok. Only hit one place which I don't think will effect anything.

Oh yea also I've had some pretty bad lifter tick for a while before this. Could that be a sign of something?

I think massive detonation caused that. You were running top end where detonation is more likely to occur (what gear do you usually tune for?) The heat and friction from detonation plus cyclinder pressure melted/shattered your piston/rod. Did you turn the car off after the race and let it sit for 10 min then start it back up?

you have to send your injectors in for flow testing etc.

Also the blue on the rod leads to the conclusion it was detonation.

It could be a sign of balance shaft bearing failure instead of lifter tick, which would more likely lead to rod bearing oiling failure at high rpm, a spun bearing, a locked big end and total engine destruction.

But at this point, for that particular former engine, it's a moot question.

WHO WANTS TO SEE THE CRANK?

I do. Come on....post more pictures of the bottom end. Like, the oil pan, the piston, the crank...What happened to the inside of the cylinder wall...haha, I like that shit.

That sucks though and good luck on the rebuild.

I'm pulling the block today hopefully. How could the balance shaft bearing go when they have been removed already?

How would I know without you telling? Got any other secret clues you'd like to share? :|

I only view about 400 posts a day. Odd that I don't go through all the mods lists. :p

just a thought on Possibly Hydo-Lock... How did your Plug look? possible that it fouled out an thus ouldnt fire the fuel?

But that was just a random thought, looks more like detonation due to the heat dis coloring the rod like that.

Oh I know you're a busy man Defiant I was just wondering if it was still possible.

As with detonation I noticed today that I didn't have an oil squirter on that cylinder. All the other ones were there. Could that be a possibility? Also where can I pick up another squirter now? Didn't get to pull the block last night, too many accessories to remove ran out of time. Crank seems fine though. Too bad I'm not going to use it.

Hm. How hard were you running it? The squirters are for cooling the piston crowns, but I don't know if you'd be able to heat one up enough for that kind of damage before something else let go.

no oil squirter...you sure LOL.

How did the cylinder walls look? any huge dents or scratches?

My guess is detonation. Lack of heat dissipation to the block due to no oil. Plus im guessing the piston was rubbing pretty bad agasin't the cylinder wall.

Yes I'm positive, you look into the clyinders and 1,2,3 have them but 4 doesn't. So were can I get another one? yea the walls are fairly scratched up but why did i get oil loss? What would cause that?
I was running it pretty hard, was a top end pull w/ a cobra.
