I just installed my 20G with external hks wastegate on a 91 talon. My mechanic said that he doesn't hear the wastegate opening and he might have to check the diaphragm. Its a 40mm wastegate I bought it used. He was also saying since I have a FWD it should be burning tires in first under full boost but its not. On the stock turbo I was. I'm running 20 psi right now. The car feels good from 3rd gear on. I wanted to know what bad can result from the wastegate not opening and why does it seems like I lost alot of bottom end? Thank you.

if the wastegate is stuck closed then the boost will keep rising.....make sure the vaccuum lines running to it are not leaking or cracked.

The 20g will take a little longer to spool but your issue sounds more like you have a lack of boost rather then over boost that would be caused by a stuck wastegate.

DBL check your lines, boost leak test ect.

I only have one vacuum line going to it coming from a manual boost controller. The line is like about 4 ft. and I didn't see any holes in it. Another thing I remembered my down pipe is still stock I have to get it changed. Can that be an effect?

I agree, do a boost leak test, are you blowing any black smoke under heavy boost, is the car missing/running rough under boost, and do you at least have a fuel pump for this 20g(I forgot to look)
There has to be some small problem you have not caught yet, even with the stock DP, that 20g in higher rpm should be lighting those fronts up in 2nd,3rd for sure.

I'm going to have to get a boost leak tester. But yeah it spits black smoke under heavy boost but it doesn't miss and no it runs good under boost. I have a supra twin turbo fuel pump. Do you guys know wheres the best place I can get a tester? Thanks.

I had a problem like this similar when I installed my external dump, I would double check your boost controller lines, One of mine was kinked, and my wastegate wasnt opening, I even went to the trouble of calling the turbo manufactuer , stupid me :\

I believe machv.com has a boost leak pressure tester on their site. Just thought you might wanna know if you are trying to get or make one. :thumb:

You know what, my boost controller lines are right at the top of the radiator. the hood might be pinning it. I'll check that out. Thanks.

You know what I did find that I never seen. Since the 20g points downward I didn't have any pipe to connect to the stock intercooler. But we fab something up with the stock pipe and with a piece of pipe I had but I never seen that the 90 bend that comes out of the turbo had a small kink in it. I would most likely think thats why its not reponding like I figured. Could I be right?
