I tried a boost leak test (per vfaq) last night and came up with some weird results. First off, I was using a large tank with a 150 psi compressor. To get the needle on my boost gauge to get past zero (2 psi) I had to turn the regulator up to 60 psi!!!! I kept hearing an air leak from around the compressor area. I think I heard air psssssing out of the IC but I will worry about that later. On top of that, to get the leaks to get louder, I had to cap off the TB end of my upper intercooler hose (no more boost gauge). Once I did, I turned the regulator back down to 20 psi. and I could distinctly hear the leaks. Number one was on a small hole on the back side of the compressor (between the exhaust and intake housings). The hole was on the back of the intake housing and was leaking air. There was another louder leak coming from the turbos general area (it was not any IC pipes or vacumn lines) but I couldn't figure out what it was and it was getting too late to continue taking things apart. While driving, the car boosts up to 10 psi fairly easy and I'm sure it could probably go higher. The boost however, lags a bit coming on, almost like a hesitation, it won't spool until around 3200 give or take and doesn't rise as quickly as I have seen other DSMs. I am still bone stock less my joe p mbc (10 psi) and my k&n filter.

Please help! I have asked a lot of detailed questions on this board and I have rarely gotten useful responses. I have learned a lot by reading old posts but it can only tell me so much. If anybody can shed some light on this it would be VERY, VERY much appreciated. Please let me know if you have any questions or need any more information. Thanks.

SOunds vaccum.....But my buddy had a similar proplem with him GST and the turbo ended up blowing the exhuast wheel out the tail pipe.......

Sounds like the oring between the compressor housing and compressor plate got waxed.

That sounds like the problem I could be having... would that prevent me from doing a successful boost leak test?

I replaced mine because I could hear a large leak coming from what sounded like the center of the turbo. The oring is about 3 dollars and you'll need a set of snapring pliers to change it.
