I had mine blown on me. You will know if there blown if you see noticeable smoke coming out of the hood. Open the hood and check where the turbo is, you should see oil dripping. It may sound stupid, but this is how i knew i blew a seal. Usually theyll go if there rusty or something. As far as knowing when it's going to blow, i cant help you there.
