i drove the car all day today.... ran great, as allways. was done by 4 pm
came back out at 11pm to go race... started it up... about 1.5 sec after start up, severe rhymic knocking and banging. It has 102500 miles on it... its a 97 gst. In the engine bay... it appears that the crank pully is hitting the body panel... and appears warped. please tell me what you think is going on!!!!

Did you check the crank pulley to make sure it isnt coming apart? That would be my first guess. If it was crankwalk, you wouldnt have any clutch disengagement with that much movement.

i haven't driven it since the problem started...but the crank pulley is appears to still be intact

If it was crankwalk, you probably would have seen the signs. It doesnt just go to hell all at once with no warnings.

the only other weird thing is... ALL my belts are fine... there not screwed up at all... does that really matter, and would me upgrading to an underdrive pully at this point be benificiaL?

Eh, it's not good to do away with the harmonic balancer. There's no telling how soon, nor to what extent. But it's not good.
