Ok, so I was on my way to my friend's house to put in my new lowering springs i just bought. I'm driving down the road almost at his house, when my car, in second gear, just shuts off. I wasn't boosting or anything it just shuts off. Now, when I tried to start the car again it just turns over and keeps turning over but won't start. Everything turns on when I put the key in the acc mode accept for the S-AFC which leads me to believe I blew my ECU because the S-AFC is the only thing hooked up into there. When I tried to jump the car, it wouldn't jump and I'm not getting any spark at all. I have not checked if I am getting fuel yet, but I probably am not because I can't hear the Walbro whistle when I put the key into the ACC. Please help me before I go and buy an ECU. I want to be sure that is what it is.

have you even checked the ECU?, as in take it out, take the cover off, and inspect for leaky caps/brown crud/ and smell for a fish like odor. i would advise you to do that before you go out and buy a new ecu...

I 2nd that. Howevever, i do think that it is probably the ecu. Get it rebuilt man!

almost sounds like the timing belt to me, when mine went, the car would just keep turning over and over but would never start.

if your afc isnt turning on, and its powered by the ecu wire, then the simplest answer would be that your ecu isnt getting power for some reason. So.. quit trying to jump start a car with no ecu power, and find out why the ecu doesnt have power.

Ok, thought about it more. I have heard that a bad afc will just stop turning on, but I dont know for sure because mine hasnt gone bad yet. So, first I recommend getting a power tester, and checking the actual ecu power wire for current.

Then, go see if you have a blown fuse or burned out relay or something

My AFC has been working for a year perfectly, never even a glitch and nothing ever gets stuck. I am almost positive my AFC didn't go bad........the reason I really think it's my ECU is because my CEL won't go on in ACC and the ECU is what makes that light turn on. Today I am going to take apart my ECU and check it out for blown caps or anything leaky. Thanks for the responses so far.

my battery recently died, and when i tried jumping, the car would turn over but not start. after getting a recharged battery, everything else turned on in the car like yours, but my AFC would not turn on still either. I don't know about you but after i button mashed it- pressing multiple buttons at once, it turned on again and everythign was fine after i got in the presets. ..*shrug

I just bought another ECU from a guy off DSMTRADER. I put it in..........and it didn't fix anything. I'm GOING CRAZY HERE!!!!!!!!! Also, my air/fuel ratio gauge won't turn on when key is in ON position and my datalogger reads ECU COMM ERROR and it read that with the old ecu too. I have ran out of ideas. Please help before I tow it to a shop and they charge me more than the car's worth to fix it (j/k)....but seriously, school starts in a week and I HAVE TO HAVE MY CAR WORKING!!!!!!!!!!!

The SAFC and the ECU get their power from the MPI relay. The ECU also gets backup power from fuse 19 (bottom right) in the drivers footwell. The ECU power up when it sees battery voltage on pin 110 from the ignition switch RUN position, it then grounds pin 8 on the MPI relay to switch on the relay which powers the MAF, CAS, ISC, injectors, O2 heater, and the various solenoids.

The MPI relay gets its power (at pin 10) from the main fusable link 1 on the battery positive terminal.

Check to make sure none of these fuses are blown and that you are getting power to the right spots.

If you need it, I repair ECUs.

FINALLY.........I towed the car to a shop and they checked it out. It is a shop that knows Mitsu's pretty good and they are friends of my dad's. After he looked at my car, he's like, i've never seen so many f***ing wires scrambled up in here in my life. He's like, you got wires that are tapped into wires that are tapped into other wires......LOL.......but none the less, he found the "NO START" problem. After me spending hours of work and buying a new ecu, he found the problem. I blew the fuse on the CAS.........that was it.....LOL. I'm so stupid, but hey, at least my car's running now and still spooling.....:0...thanks for all the replies tho guys......c ya in a bit, im sure.
