So I'm drivin along at about forty and then I hear boom from underneath and hear skidding and basically the car is now undrivable(had it towed home) also there was smoke coming from the tranny/t-case area(underneath the intake manifold)Anybody know what the f..k happened.

My car did that too. Although mine isnt a GSX. Turns out what happened was the spider gears in the final drive exploded, literally. The entire tranny case was split from stem to stern. Thats how I lost all of my fluid. When I did it, I had just done the 4th to 2nd drop going for an overtake and at about 45mph it let go. I was lucky enough that it didnt bring me to a screeching halt. Infact it even still drove under its own power. Very slowly and not very far. Get out your jack, lift the car, roll under it and look at the damage. Ive heard of transfer cases doing exactly what yours did. Most likely youll have to replace both the tranny and the t-case. Good luck! Swapping those out isnt really that difficult. Just make sure that you have a CHILTONS manual and read the entire section thoughly so there are no suprises.

luckily I've had a rebuilt gvr4 tranny/t-case waiting to go in so now i need to pick a clutch I'll i really needed to know is if it was tranny or t-case related so i didn't waste time puting in my new tranny

Dont even waste your time trying to figure out if it was the tranny or the t-case. If one broke so hard that it caused you to come to a screeching halt, its definatly broken. And if youve got a gvr4 tranny and t-case then wheres the dilema? Just pick out your clutch and do the job. ;)
