I had my hg replaced....and the mechanic who did the work said that a lot of water had gone through to the exhaust (my car was smokin for a little while, like a week or two) and he said that its possible that my cat could be done because of the water getting in there...... is that true?????

You'd have hydrolocked your motor before you'd have damaged your catclysmic diverter. You'll also get a CEL from the rear O2 sensor.
