okay i'm in a dilemma here. last nite i was driving, and my check oil light goes on and my car shuts off...it turns out that my filter got loose and all the oil fell out....not thinking much about it, we just towed it home and i finished changing the filter and putting a new batch of oil in it...problem is, IT WON'T TURN ON! i hear the starter for a short bit, but the check oil light is still there! HELP!!!

i HIGHLY doubt my motor's blown and am thinking it could POSSIBLY be the battery....only thing is that why would the oil light stay on then? i disconnected the batt and put it back on. still no luck

Hrm - so you say the oil light's still on, you're sure you have enough oil in there?

How long did you run it before you realized you were completely out of oil? Did you check the trail of oil that you should've left to see where it started/stopped?

crap...right now i just gave it a jumpstart in hopes that it was my battery that was drained...when i tried starting it my friend said he saw smoke coming out of the starter...

try to turn the motor over by hand at the crank pulley.. it is very possible even with a few seconds that you can fubar a bearing. when my car spun a bearing it totally seized the motor.

thats what we were thinking right now...we took off the valve cover and spark plugs & noticed that the ones on cyl 2 & 4 were covered in unburnt oil.

If you're starter started smoking that means it burned out ifs stator winding by drawing too much current to try to turn the engine over. High current draw is a implication of mechanical resistance, such as a seized bearing. Try turning the engine over by hand, if it turns over easily, look to the starter, if it doesn't look at the motor.
